Genealogy update

I don’t know how many people have only bookmarked the genealogy page because they’re in for a huge surprise the next time they visit there. That part of the site is gone! Gone as in G-O-N-E!  I had enough of PHPGedView and being told that all my problems weren’t issues on their end. So I coughed up $30 and bought TNG which stands for The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding. This is amazing software. For only 30 dollars, I received so much more. Yes, the themes are very bland but everything is just plain awesome. If I wanted to use this as a standalone genealogy program I could. It’s just that detailed.

Although I do have the URL in the sidebar on this site, you can go directly there by using this: DoddemaGen Family Pages. Please let me know what you think.

For those of you that have already registered with the old software, I built new accounts for you but had to give you new passwords. When your account was created, an email was sent with it. Please check your email and make sure it didn’t go in your spam folder. Otherwise, we welcome all newcomers that might want to register at DoddemaGen.

On a sidenote, I don’t know much HTML, CSS or anything else for that matter. If it’s not built-in, I don’t know it and I have to teach myself. Until such a time where I do learn HTML, the new TNG site will be kind of dull. I do plan on improving the theme as I can.

I have imported an update to the database. If you find any errors, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

  1. wow… lol…we are night and day… g2 and phpgedview dont give me any issues… but phpgedview is a bit old school..

gonna have to check out the one you referenced…

we need to hook back up man…

  2. Haha. It’s a laugh a minute around here. I was having a problem with it and I was getting an error. I reported it and copied it exactly but for some reason the error log wasn’t catching it. So they had me upgrade to the latest beta and still no help. I just gave up!

I’m thinking as far as G2 is concerned…only one image per post seems to work best.

Actually the guy on the front page is my great grandfather. Cool huh!?! My dad and I both bare a resemblance to him. He’s probably actually more handsome than I am but….

I should have time between dr visits today to email you. I’ll catch you later.

  3. holy crap… this has to be the worst install program I have ever seen… nothing works out of the box… I am having to do everthing manual… hoping I can get to the end product…

  4. wow…it gets worse and worse…every step of the installatin process fails.. lots of manual stuff… its not looking good for this thing… wishing I had my money back right now…

  5. danger Will Robinson… this app looks like a security nightmare… it gets hacked a lot from reports around the net… that install stuff from the readme is crazy… they are screwing up (imho) the file permissions and leaving holes…

  6. Now that you’ve had some time to actually work with it, what do you think?

For those of you interested, Mr Papa took some of the script that’s currently available and modified it to provide the information that you see in the footer column! Thanks Mr Papa!!!!
