Oona Alice Peterson, daughter of Kavan Peterson and Sarah Johnson, was born 8 June 2007 at 0013 (12:13 AM) weighing in at 6 pounds, 14 ounces.
The following is an excerpt from Kavan’s email to us:
On June 8 at 12:13 a.m. Sarah Johnson and Kavan Peterson were born a beautiful healthy girl, Oona Alice Peterson, weighing 6 lbs. 14 ounces and 21 and 1/4 inches long. Both momma and daughter are recovering wonderfully from a long but smooth labor and delivery.
Oona’s middle name is for her mother’s grandmother Alice Surface, who recently passed away, and Kavan’s great-great grandmother Alice Peterson.
About the name Oona:
The girl’s name Oona \o(o)-na\ is pronounced OO-nah. It is of Scottish, Irish and Gaelic origin, meaning “unity”. Variant of Una ( Latin) “one”. Playwright Eugene O’Neill gave this name to his daughter, Lady Oona O’Neill Chaplin, wife of Charlie Chaplin.
Oona: From the Irish word uan “a lamb” or may come from the Latin una meaning “one,” hence it is sometimes translated as “Unity.” In legend Oonagh was “Queen of the Fairies” who had long golden hair which reached to the ground and she was also the wife of legendary Fionn Mac Cool.
Welcome to the family, Oona.
I apologize for being gone for so long. My internet connection was done for a time and the local cable guys took over two weeks before coming to look at the problem. As they’re the only cable guys in Missoula, it’s best not to complain too much or the wait can be even longer. I’m not rocking that boat!
In the meantime, I’ve been doing lots of genealogy. I’ve added more individuals from the information given me by Rob Leeuwerke, Henk Doddema and Barbara Kuhns Cumming. I believe I have over 3000 names now in the database which is pretty cool. I’m continually amazed by the influx of information. I imagine a big bonus is that I’m doing all the entering. If that is all it takes to add extra information about our families…I’m all for it. I have the time.
I’ll probably be a little slow the next couple of days while I catch up on emails, updates to the site (technology does not take a rest even though my cable guy does), and my wife’s operation this upcoming Tuesday. Although only about a 20 minute procedure, it’s still a pretty big deal for me. This is the love of my life going under the knife or laser as this case appears. It’s personal for her so I won’t go into details but it’s a very serious matter and her health has been compromised enough. She should be an entirely renewed person by the time she heals up from this. I look forward to her being healthy and energetic again!
So until then, keep sending your information, keep us in your prayers and know that we are that much closer to making our history complete!
I apologize for not posting here more often. Hopefully to make up for some of that, I present you with my newest from ScrapBlog:
I’m always interested in hearing what’s happening in your family. If you have some news that you’d like to share with the rest of the us at DoddemaGen, please post it. If you don’t have an account and don’t want to take the time to register….just email me and I’ll post it for you. I’m a big Star Trek fan. So big I’m a member of Starfleet International and belong to the USS Riverside chapter. Currently, I’m the administrator there and still trying to make us the best website/chapter in the ‘fleet! While researching some different possibilities, I discovered a new Doddema–Harry Doddema from Memory-Alpha, one of the premier Star Trek sites available today.
I contacted Harry and was able to get some information from him. The family has given most of their information to Henk Doddema so I can’t wait until he returns from Africa so we can collaborate. At that point, you should notice a big increase in names at DoddemaGen. The guy has been doing research much longer than I have.
So if you like Star Trek, check out Harry’s site. Harry, welcome to our global family!
