Gedcom update-3/26/2013
It's been almost 4 months since my last gedcom update. I didn't take the time to compute how many documents or individuals were added but I can honestly say, it was not a small amount. I plan on making gedcom updates monthly to reflect my work.
The main reason it's taking more time is I'm also reconciling my records with the new FamilySearch FamilyTree as well as combining the many duplicate records that are out there…and there are many. Some individuals had more than 6 records! It takes a lot of work combining these records as well as adding all my sources as well.
Why do all this work? I spend alot of my time working on this project. It's one of my life goals (besides being the best husband and father that I can be!) to have as complete a family history as possible, not just for myself but for later generations! I try to be as thorough as I can. Heck, I'm still learning and fixing mistakes I've made myself in the past 20 years. Family history is a continual learning curve. Take that and add all the FamilySearch submissions and you have a handful!
By taking the time now, adding my sources and reasons why I believe my information is the most correct should ensure less mistakes in the future.
How can you help? Be patient as I work. Pray for me. Ask questions! Send more information my way including photos of significant events.

Remember how I wrote that I switched genealogy packages – PHPGedView to TNG? Well, the folks over at TNG forums have added a nice piece of script that allows you to insert it anywhere on your website. I noticed that another WordPress had successfully added it to his blog. Well the wheels started turning from there.
With the correct php files and a piece of code into 3 separate King text widgets, I was able to get it to work.
Files to make it work and the code for the King text widget:
Birthdays: http://www.tngforum.us/index.p…..topic=1207
Birthday code:
<?php include("http://www.your_url.com/genealogy/todaybirthdays.php"); ?>
Anniversaries: http://www.tngforum.us/index.php?showtopic=1209
Anniversary code:
<?php include("http://www.your_url.com/genealogy/todayanniversaries.php"); ?>
Deaths: http://www.tngforum.us/index.php?showtopic=1208
Death code:
<?php include("http://www.your_url.com/genealogy/todaydeaths.php"); ?>
Why did I chose King Text widget? It's the only text widget that I know that allows for PHP code. And it's free.
Each one of these codes will need to be modified for your corresponding URL/path to TNG.
Slight problem with the update to WordPress 2.2…..the King Text widget doesn't work. Great! Now I have to wait until a solution is made on that one unless Mr Papa comes up with an idea…..knowing him, he'll have it whipped out in about 30 minutes or less. Unfortunately, he's on vacation. Until then, we wait.

Again it was Mr Papa to the rescue. He had barely returned from vacation and he was already answering my emails. The guy must like me!
Anywho, there's a replacement widget out that there that handles PHP….it's called Samsarin PHP Widget. Very nice and easy to use. Just insert the code and you're ready to go.
I'm going to check with Mr Papa to see if he minds if I share the code for the widgets. Somebody out there might find it useful….if they ever read these posts.
