New Addition to the Peterson Family

Click MeOona Alice Peterson, daughter of Kavan Peterson and Sarah Johnson, was born 8 June 2007 at 0013 (12:13 AM) weighing in at 6 pounds, 14 ounces.

The following is an excerpt from Kavan’s email to us:

On June 8 at 12:13 a.m. Sarah Johnson and Kavan Peterson were born a beautiful healthy girl, Oona Alice Peterson, weighing 6 lbs. 14 ounces and 21 and 1/4 inches long. Both momma and daughter are recovering wonderfully from a long but smooth labor and delivery.

Oona’s middle name is for her mother’s grandmother Alice Surface, who recently passed away, and Kavan’s great-great grandmother Alice Peterson.

About the name Oona:

The girl’s name Oona \o(o)-na\ is pronounced OO-nah. It is of Scottish, Irish and Gaelic origin, meaning “unity”. Variant of Una ( Latin) “one”. Playwright Eugene O’Neill gave this name to his daughter, Lady Oona O’Neill Chaplin, wife of Charlie Chaplin.

Oona: From the Irish word uan “a lamb” or may come from the Latin una meaning “one,” hence it is sometimes translated as “Unity.” In legend Oonagh was “Queen of the Fairies” who had long golden hair which reached to the ground and she was also the wife of legendary Fionn Mac Cool.

Welcome to the family, Oona.

It’s My Birthday

Yes, it is.  I’ll say it again if I have to.  I’m not a big fan of my own birthday.  I don’t know why and it’s not because I’m getting older.  I’m 36 and that’s not old.  It’s taken almost 13 years for my wife to give up but this year I got my wish…no cake, no big bash or anything like that.  It was a relief.  Just to let people know that I’m not completely heartless, here’s one of those blog quizzes on what my birth date means:
